Third Annual Mental Health Festival Day at Manly will be held on 30th March, 2008, a festival of wellness with entertainment, fun, social inclusions and information.
Mental Heatlh Festival Day at Manly on 30 March 2008 The festival is a celebration of disabilities (visible and invisible) and the many ways that mental wellbeing drives physical health. The openiing ceremony by Mayor Peter Macdonald will be in the Corso at 11.30am. Mike Baird member for Manly will also attend. Social inclusion is a big theme for this eclectic fair which will bring together many agencies supporting children with disabilities (Lifestart and Sailability for example), a variety of ethnic groups such as the Bosnian womens' choir, Uncle Bob Waterer, direct descendant of Bungaree who will be inviting all ethnic groups to the traditional lands in his welcome to country. Also attending is Professor Sue Green, a specialist in social inclusion, head of the Nura Gili Indigenous programme at university of NSW. Casey Donovan will be a feature performer. The police concert band will also perform. Fitness and wellbeing is covered by Guy Leach, Laine Beachley, canoeing, surfing and volleyball training, Global Colours Body Art Garden (face and body painting), the Rainbow Room who pamper carers and the disabled, disabled surfers, Speranza's win-a-surfboard competition and more. Sailability will be there to demonstrate how disabled people can participate in sport. Stalls by various outreach groups and non-government organisations like Lifeline, Arafmi, ASCA (child abuse), a schizophrenia fellowship, local area health and local government groups, cancer council, various carer agencies, COASIT (Italian community).
