It is the seat of the Archbishop of Sydney, and stands on the site of the first Catholic Chapel in Australia.

Access:

Entry from St Mary Street via ramp into the Cathedral. Stairs at all other entrances. Ring ahead to Cathedral (02) 9220 0400 to arrange entry. Buzzer at door.

Accessible parking at Cook & Phillip Park carpark near St Mary's Cathedral (entry off Cathedral Street). There is an accessible path of travel from the carpark via ramps to Cathedral Square. Taxi rank is located on Market & Castlereagh Sts (outside of Centrepoint Shopping Centre).

Bus:

Wheelchair accessible bus on route 441 (Balmain District to QVB); route 100 (Dee Why to Airport, via North Sydney and Phillip and Elizabeth Streets); route 178 (Dee Why to Town Hall); route 175 (Warringah Mall to Town Hall).Bondi & Bay Explorer Bus (wheelchair accessible) stop 18 is in front of the Cathedral, along College Street.

Train:

Museum and St. James Stations are located under Hyde Park but are not wheelchair accessible. Use the monorail from Central Station , to the City Centre Station. Use lift or stairs to Pitt Street level (near corner of Pitt & Market). Travel 300 metres to the Cathedral.
