Discover the daily lives of convicts and other occupants through exhibitions on Sydney's male convict labour force, Australia's convict system, an innovative soundscape, excavated artefacts, exposed layers of building fabric and the complex's rooms and spaces.

Access:

Entry from MacQuarie Street to the compound. Use the ramp to enter the Museum building. Ground level is accessible, but there is no wheelchair access upstairs. Pathways around compound are made of compacted gravel. Assistance: There are organised tours in Auslan (sign language) for hearing impaired. Phone 02 9692 8366 or TTY 9241 5866.

Toilets:

There is an accessible toilet at the rear of compound.

Vehicle:

Accessible parking at Cook & Phillip Park carpark near St Marys Cathedral (entry off Cathedral Street). There is an accessible path of travel from the carpark via ramps to Cathedral Square, along College St to the Museum. Taxi rank is located on Market & Castlereagh Sts (outside of Centrepoint Shopping Centre).

Bus:

Wheelchair accessible bus on route 441 (Balmain District to QVB); route 100 (Dee Why to Airport, via North Sydney and Phillip and Elizabeth Streets); route 178 (Dee Why to Town Hall); route 175 (Warringah Mall to Town Hall). Bondi and Bay Explorer bus stop 19 near museum. Sydney Explorer bus stop 4 near museum.

Train:

Museum and St. James Stations are located under Hyde Park but are not wheelchair accessible. Use the monorail from Central Station, to the City Centre Station. Use lift or stairs to Pitt St level (near corner of Pitt & Market). Travel 300 metres to the Museum.
